DEVELOPMENT OF FACILITIES

The farm has been rebuilt since it was purchased as a cattle farm. As a breeding property, the goal is to hold no more than 45 horses – including mares, foals and race horses on the property. It currently holds 40.

The layout and facilities all had to be redesigned to accommodate the new purpose.

Fences:

The maze of fences has been designed to allow the movement of horses from one paddock to another as hassle free as possible. Walkways can be shut down or redirected as required.

Water:

A second dam was placed beside the original one to funnel any run off from the surrounding hill into the existing dam. The third and largest dam has been placed at the opposite corner of the property with the intention to one day use it for trickle irrigation.

A system of pipes have been installed to automatically deliver fresh water to each of the paddocks, day yards and stables as required with the drinking troughs operating on a floating refill device.

The house on the property has five large tanks servicing its needs while the stables have three 5000 gallon tanks capturing rain water. The vet shed has fresh running water available.

Shelters:

The stable is approximately 10 metres tall, 36 metres long and twelve metres wide. It has been designed to maximize airflow. It holds twelve horses including two bays for a mare and foal. The feed room is contained within the stables as is the wash bay. On a mezzanine level, there is a large tea room overlooking the stables.

Behind the stables are the seven day yards and to the side is a paddock assign to mares that are due to foal down. Each of the seven larger sized paddocks has a good sized shelter for the horses to receive cover from the elements.

Vet Shed:

The vet shed is built in close proximity to the stables and is fed with hot and cold water and electricity. A crush has been built in and the remaining internals designed to ease the job of the vet. Trucks have easy access to this area for loading or unloading.

Exercise/Training:

The 975m training track is equipped with running rail and a shute plus starting barriers for the race horses. Within the centre of the track is a pool for the horses to experience resistance training to establish toning and fitness while keeping cool.

The walking machine can work either clockwise or anti clockwise. It operates at different paces and holds ten horses. The horses are walked twice a day at a rate dependent on their age and purpose.

Communication:

The property has been fitted out with three phase electricity, broadband satellite connection and 8 extra phone lines for any future development. Mobile phones work on the property.
